Asbestos

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that was commonly used in building materials until the 1970s. It was valued for its fire-resistant and insulating properties, and was used in everything from roofing shingles to floor tiles, cement, and insulation.

However, asbestos is now known to be a health hazard. When asbestos-containing materials are disturbed, tiny fibers are released into the air, and when inhaled, they can cause serious lung diseases, including asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma.

As a result, many countries have banned or restricted the use of asbestos in building materials. However, asbestos can still be found in older buildings, particularly those built before the 1980s. If you suspect that your building may contain asbestos give us a call.

Lead Paint

Lead-based paint was commonly used in homes and buildings prior to the 1970s, as it was durable and provided good coverage. However, lead is a toxic metal, and when lead-based paint begins to deteriorate, it can create lead dust and flakes that can be ingested or inhaled.

Lead exposure can cause a range of health problems, especially in young children whose bodies are still developing. These problems can include developmental delays, learning difficulties, and behavior problems. Pregnant women and adults who are exposed to high levels of lead can also experience health problems, including high blood pressure, nerve disorders, and reproductive problems.

In response to the dangers of lead-based paint, many countries have banned or restricted its use in homes and buildings. If you live in an older home or building, it is important to have it inspected for the presence of lead-based paint.

Mold

Mold in buildings is a common problem, especially in areas that are damp or have high humidity. Mold can grow on a variety of surfaces, including walls, ceilings, floors, and even on furniture and other items within the building.

Mold can cause a range of health problems, especially for individuals with allergies or asthma. Exposure to mold spores can cause respiratory symptoms, such as coughing, sneezing, and wheezing, as well as skin irritation and other symptoms.

If mold is already present in a building, it is important to address it promptly to prevent further growth and spread. This may involve removing contaminated materials, such as drywall or insulation, and cleaning affected surfaces with specialized products designed to kill and remove mold.

It is important to note that some types of mold can be particularly dangerous, especially for individuals with weakened immune systems. If you suspect that you have a mold problem in your building, it is important to consult with a qualified professional who can assess the situation and recommend appropriate measures to address it.
